Dear NEST Community,
We have now opened the registration for the NEST Autumn Hackathon which will take place a month from now from 7 to 10 September 2026 at NMBU's beautiful campus at Ås (https://maps.app.goo.gl/RpKnPaHdNFoHB6t99). We will as usual begin on Monday around 9.00 and close on Thursday by 17.00. On Tuesday or Wednesday, we will have the usual hackathon dinner, most likely in Oslo.
Participation is free of charge, but you will have to cover your travel, food and accommodation yourself. To register, please go to https://events.hifis.net/event/4340/.
Concerning travel to Ås and Oslo:
* The fastest way is to fly to Oslo (OSL). Make sure that you get a ticket to Oslo Gardermoen (OSL proper), not to Sandefjord-Torp (TRF). There is a small chance you will be offered flights to TRF even when searching for Oslo/OSL. * The slowest most relaxing way (in my view) from northern Germany is to take the ferry from Kiel (https://www.colorline.com), but your travel expense administrators might not agree 😉. * Snälltåget also offers a train connection from Berlin and Hamburg with change in Malmö (https://www.snalltaget.se/en#).
Concerning accommodation, there are several options:
SiÅs (student social services) guest apartments on campus (https://www.sias.no/housing/sias-guest-accommodation/)
* Thon Hotel at Ski (good train connection from Oslo airport, good train and bus connections to NMBU, NOK 379 for a weekly ticket) * Accommodation in Oslo, ideally not too far from Oslo Central or National Theatre stations (fast trains to Ås twice an hour, NOK 662 for the weekly ticket including public transport in Oslo) * Hotels in Drøbak (by the sea, nice touristically, bus connection to NMBU, slightly longer from the airport, NOK 379 for the weekly ticket that gets you to campus; some hotels might be a bit of a walk from the bus stop) * There should also be AirBnB options * Since we will be in term in September, student housing is, unfortunately, not an option
I am looking forward to seeing you in September! Hans Ekkehard
